Company history

History and the present of MOSTRO a.s.

In 1958, the company began working on the development and production of valves for nuclear power engineering. Essential projects included manufacturing and development of valves for a Slovak nuclear power plant in Jaslovské Bohunice, for a nuclear power plant, which was formerly known as a Soviet power plant Voroněž, and for the Institute of Nuclear Research in Řež near Prague.

The history of the company dates back to 1913 when the so-called "manufacturing trade" had been established, and which continued until 1947 when the production of high-pressure valves began. In 1951, the company was called Modřanské strojírny ČKD and was incorporated into the ČKD corporation as an independent enterprise.

Essential projects included manufacturing and development of valves for a Slovak nuclear power plant in Jaslovské Bohunice, for a nuclear power plant, which was formerly known as a Soviet power plant Voroněž, and for the Institute of Nuclear Research in Řež.

In 1965, the former state-owned company Modřanské strojírny was integrated into the Sigma concern as part of the commodity unification process. Since 1979, the company has been operating under its new name Sigma Modřany.

Since 1974, the nuclear market has expanded dramatically, including the range of valves required by nuclear power plants using VVER and RBMK reactors.

The present history of the company began in 1993 when MOSTRO a.s. was founded. However, products of MOSTRO a.s. may still be seen today under the former trade name SIGMA, or Modřanské strojírny in power plants and heat plants around the world.

The most important change took place in 2015 when a new investor joined the company, and MOSTRO a.s. became a member of the ZPA Pečky Group. By incorporating MOSTRO a.s. into a strong multinational manufacturing and financial group consisting of several major industrial and commercial companies, a new phase of company development has begun. The new management has faced an ambitious goal to continue with the successful tradition and significantly strengthen the company's position in key markets. As part of the integration process into the new ownership structure, the company headquarters and production facilities were relocated to a new and modern facility in Pečky. The relocation took place before the end of 2015, and was completed in early 2017. At the same time, new and progressive welding and heat treatment technologies were introduced.
